Engagement is Our Mission: OC San Meets its Mission One Program at a Time

Presentation Description: The Orange County Sanitation District (OC San) has a comprehensive public outreach and education program that is focused on highlighting every aspect of the wastewater treatment process and educating and informing the 2.6 million residents it serves. As a vital aspect of responsible environmental stewardship, effective public engagement is key to fostering understanding and support for wastewater initiatives. This session will delve into case studies of OC San thorough outreach and educational program.
Case Studies to be presented:
• Virtual and In-Person Facility Tours
• Speakers Bureau
• Video Contest
• Citizens Academy
• Outreach Events
• Community Partnership Programs
o Inside the Outdoors
o Heritage Museum of Orange County

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will gain insights on how to create impactful public outreach and education initiatives that will align with an agencys mission to educate and engage the selected communities.
  • Participants will learn how OC San engages community partners, determines an audience, develops a curriculum, and leverages technology.
  • Participants will gleam how to continue a program after the excitement has worn off and how to pivot in different landscapes.
