Collections Supervisor City Of Sunnyvale San Jose, California
Presentation Description: Every year collection system workers are injured and sometimes killed due to their lack of knowledge and understanding in the use of certain tools necessary to successfully perform their work. The purpose of this presentation is to educate both operators and management of the inherent dangers involved in the use of a few specific tools in order to help prevent more injuries and deaths in the future. The main tools to be discussed are the use and installation of pneumatic plugs, the use of high-pressure nozzles, and the use and repair of high-pressure hose. We will emphasize the dangers associated with these tools through multimedia and instruction. Proper use and precautions that must be exercised during the use of these tools will be demonstrated and the possible injuries that could occur will be explained. Past experiences of other municipal works using these tools who have narrowly escaped injury and those who were actually injured will be shared.
Learning Objectives:
recognize the dangers involved in using sewer hose that has its cover ripped, torn, or missing in places.
recognize the tremendous amount of force that can exist inside a plug with a small PSI rating.
recognize the importance and necessity of using a nozzle extension anytime a nozzle is being used to clean the sewer pipe.
