Stormwater Debris and Ceramic Membrane Removal of Bacteria, Heavy Metal, Organic, and Inorganic Pollutants

Presentation Description: Attendees will understand not only the importance of debris removal in meeting the EPA’s Long Term Control Plans (LTCP Guidelines); however, understand the importance of removing dissolved and suspended organic and inorganic pollutants that are often accumulative, recalcitrant to natural biodegradation, slow in natural biodegradation or oxygen depleting in water. Plant and aquatic life, as well as humans are often affected from the uptake of these accumulating, hazardous pollutants. Although the focus for decades has been to remove natural or human debris from impeding downstream flow and upstream flooding, the EPA is now emphasizing the need and future discharge requirements through the Clean Water act to remove pollutants from sewage overflows, pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, hydrocarbons, and toxic heavy metals from untreated stormwater flow. Data from piloted studies and technologies will be presented in support of the partial or complete removal of many of the above hazardous pollutants. Therefore, the primary focus will not only be on the point source, deep tunnel, and CSO/CSS facility removal of debris, but the removal or reduction of dissolved, suspended, and emulsified organic & inorganic hazardous pollutants. A remotely operated, proprietary ceramic filtration system will be discussed that will not only withstand dry intermittent periods of flow & cold weather environments without damage but retain & process large flow/high flux capacity stormwater & sewage overflows in small area footprints.
