Dr. Danielson is principal and CEO of Danielson Applied Consulting, LLC, dedicated to environmental and public health education. Dr. Danielson received his PhD from UC Berkeley School of Public Health (1989); MA Microbiology, CSU Fullerton (1981) and BA Biology/Chemistry U. San Diego (1978). He was the Laboratory Director of BioVir Laboratories, an environmental microbiological testing laboratory for 25 years (1995 – 2019). Dr. Danielson served as a Research Scientist III and Chief of the Environmental Microbial Diseases Section (EMDS) of the Microbial Disease Laboratory (MDL, 1991 - 1995) in the California Department of Health Services. Most recently, he was the Lead Microbiologist on the WRF/CA Water Boards research project (WRF 4952) for the development of regulations for direct potable reuse, focused on enteric viruses, parasites and SARS-CoV-2. Dr. Danielson was a Team Member of the NWRI advisory panel on DPR regulations for the State of Colorado (2018-2019). Dr. Danielson has developed and participated in microbial methods validation with the US EPA (EPA Methods 1622, 1623, 1601, 1602, 1680, 1681, 1682, and Enterococcus and Bacteroidales by PCR); and a contributor to Standard Methods for the Evaluation of Water and Wastewater (9213-G). Dr. Danielson has a broad background in environmental health microbiology including: the development and application of bio-technology (PCR, LAMP, ELISA, monoclonal antibodies, plasmid analysis, etc.); microbial risk assessment; environmental virology and parasitology (certified USEPA Principal Analyst for protozoans and viruses; conducting parasite analysis under the USEPA 503 Rule); providing information and consultation on agents of bioterrorism; expert testimony in environmental microbial contamination cases; and, the establishment of certified environmental microbiological testing laboratories.
